Federation Trip to Denman College
Details of courses available when we visit Denman College from Monday 17th to Thursday 20th September 2012. The cost of the trip will be £420 members (£457 non-members if space available) which includes full board in beautiful surroundings, first class tutors and a coach each way. We are setting up an easy payment plan which will be available as soon as you make your booking.

The course and tutor details follow:
Unfortunately two of the original courses “Discovering your voice” and “Cooking with Wine” have been withdrawn through insufficient interest, we have two alternatives which we hope will have wider appeal. Please ring the office to secure your place.
The replacement courses are:
“Spa and Spire” (Bath & Oxford) with Bernard Pumfrey – this will be an opportunity to discover two of Britain’s most magical cities with a visit to both.
“Caligraphy for Christmas” with Mary Noble – be creative and explore this ancient skill for all festive occasions from elegant black ink to vibrant colour and gold to enhance cards, gift boxes and decorations.
Details of the other courses remain unchanged.
h4. 112.1172 – Wind in the Willows
Discover the fascinating life story of Kenneth Grahame and his family, visit the Berkshire villages where they lived and enjoy the antics of Ratty, Mole, Badger and Toad in readings from ‘Wind in the Willows’ Please note that visits off-site can involve a substantial amount of walking, including rough ground and steps.
Tutor: Lesley Dore. Lesley lives in a village outside Wallingford and taught at Abingdon College for 20 years. She tutored the A-level English open learning course at Denman between 1995 and 1998 and now works part time in adult education
112.1173 – Life Begins
Feel good and look great over 50. One tutor explores the importance of exercise and diet to counter arthritis, osteoporosis and high blood pressure. The other focuses on dressing with style – which colours and styles suit you best.
Tutor: Liz Prest. Liz has extensive experience in summer schools and adult education. Her background in image consultancy, since the late 1980’s, provides her with in-depth knowledge and professional skills. She is a fellow of the Federation of Image Consultants and has qualified in the joint City & Guilds fTFIC award in Image Consultancy.
Tutor: Karen Hunt. Karen is a fully qualified Fitness and Nutrition Practitioner. She runs ‘Diets4Us’ a successful Holistic Nutritional Practise and weight loss company in Oxfordshire and teaches many classes in the surrounding area – Aerobics, Body Pump, Power Walking and Relaxation
112.1175 – Rag Rugging and Recycling
This course will allow learners to become confident in five techniques and produce five samples: proddy, hooky, knitted, plaited and peg loom. There will also be demonstrations of other techniques. You will produce a lavender cushion and a cushion using a range of combined techniques and do a number of samples of other techniques.
Tutor: Deborah Hastings. Deborah trained in horticulture at Hadlow College. She used her skills as a garden designer to design wall hangings, rugs and clothing from old textiles. She now teaches for the WEA and the Open University. She has contributed for a number of years to textile workshops at the Bovey Tracey Contemporary Craft Fair, RHS Rosemoor, The Old Post Office and the National Trust at Tintagel. She provides a weekly craft class for drug and alcohol residents in rehabilitation in Plymouth and for those with physical and mental health issues in a day centre in Bideford. 112.1178 – Ikebana for Beginners
Create beautifully balanced, elegant designs and learn about the theory and culture behind this ancient Japanese art of flower arranging – no experience necessary.
Tutor: Mary Symons. Mary studied in the UK and Japan to qualify as an Ikebana teacher. She travels extensively in Japan to experience the lifestyle and culture. Mary has been a tutor at Denman for almost 20 years.
