Where were you in '52

Be among the first people to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s
sixty years on the throne. All sorts of celebrations are
planned to take place over the course of the year and all
over the country but ours will surely be one of the earliest.

On Monday 6th February 2012 at the Riverside Centre,
Stratford St Andrew, we are planning to transport you back to
1952 and remind you of what life was like in the year in which
Elizabeth became Queen. Bring your own memories and
stories of that time to add to those that we have garnered for
your entertainment.

As part of that entertainment we intend to have a display of
fifties artefacts: the toys we played with, the music we
listened to, the clothes we wore – not to mention the kind of
food that we ate. For many of us it will be trip down memory
lane and for those of us too young to remember that decade it
will serve as a fascinating and fun history lesson.

The date we have chosen could not be more appropriate
because it will be 60 years to the day since our Queen
acceded to the throne on the death of her father, George
VI. The venue is a favourite with many members as it is
easy to get to and has plenty of parking. The cost will be
£6 per head, to include a fifties-style afternoon tea, and
the doors will open at 2.30pm.
