An Annual Meeting with a difference

It seems such a long time ago since our last Annual Meeting at Trinity Park back in March 2020 and after lots of hoping and finger crossing it was concluded that the only way was Zoom for 2021.

So, on Tuesday 25th May 2021 that’s exactly what happened and delegates from WI groups across the Federation and invited guests came together to celebrate and reflect on what has been a very strange 14 months.

In true WI style we began with ‘Jerusalem’ and were welcomed by our Chairman, Celia Davies. Official business was carried out before our morning speakers took to the screen. We were joined by Deb Johnson from Lighthouse Women’s Aid who spoke about how the pandemic has affected the charity, Chiarina Marchessi from Clip n Climb in Ipswich spoke to us about all the fun to be had at the centre whatever your age (There was even talk about a WI Challenge at one stage so watch this space!) and with our National Resolution in mind Kate Stannard from Target Ovarian Cancer was invited to join us who gave an interesting and informative talk. Celia Davies gave the Chairman’s address, which outlined the changes within the WI during the pandemic and praised members for supporting each other in challenging circumstances.

After an update on the ACWW from Anita Scruby and the introduction of the Board of Trustees for 2021 we were joined by Chrissie Le Marchant, a Blue Badge Tour Guide from the West Country, for a talk entitled ‘In search of Poldark and Doc Martin’. Every year a Chairman’s Award is given to the member who has gone above and beyond for their WI or for the Federation and under normal circumstances the recipient is decided by the Chair. This year members were asked for nominations and as a result 30 members were recognised with the overall winner being Di Chilver, Secretary of Kesgrave WI.

Even though this year’s meeting didn’t happen quite the way we would have wanted we were still able to come together to reflect and celebrate. We look forward to a better year and I for one can’t wait to (hopefully) see everyone in person in 2022!
