The good news is that we have had confirmation that the Scottish-based ‘Waverley’ paddle steamer is still hoping to travel south and offer trips to London from East Anglia, returning by coach in the evening. This will be either at the end of September or the beginning of October.
However there is still no certainty that social-distancing will be lifted (making the trip down viable), so an official timetable is not yet available and bookings are not being taken.
Those who have already registered their interest will be contacted as soon as we know something definite and anyone else interested is advised to contact Gill Denny at the office. Once booking opens, priority will go to those on this list. (Total cost: approx. £90)
The ‘SS Waverley’ was built in 1946 and is based on the Clyde, but in normal times makes an annual journey south, offering day-trips between East Suffolk and London. Boarding would probably be at Harwich, although, if there were sufficient numbers , we could possibly negotiate at least one additional pick-up point. The day would include a coach-service return from London.
